Tenants new to NB Housing

NB Housing allocates its properties in accordance with the Housing Selection Scheme, which is approved by Department for Communities.

The scheme has been devised to be fair and open, to offer applicants a choice in where they want to live.

Following the successful completion of your one-year introductory tenancy, as a tenant of NB Housing, you have the security of tenure. This means that we cannot end your tenancy without applying to the Courts.

We would only take such action in very exceptional circumstances, such as deliberate non-payment of rent and only after taking every opportunity to resolve the problem with you. The full grounds on which the Association can apply to the court to recover possession of a property are contained in Housing Order (NI) 1983 and your Tenancy Agreement.

How to apply for social housing

If you are not currently a social housing tenant but wish to be considered for this you must contact the Housing Executive to obtain an application form. A member of their staff will then arrange for an assessment of your circumstances to be carried out and decide if you are eligible to be placed on the waiting list.

All social landlords operate a Common Waiting List. They use this to allocate their housing to the highest pointed applicant on the Waiting List.
